Aidan founded his monastery at Lindisfarne in 635, and Northumbria became a centre of Christian learning and art. This find belongs to that regional story of faith made visible. Its circular centre and flared arms give the cross a clear, distinctive outline, with the worn detail preserved in each new casting.
