In Shakespeare’s England, the owl was a bird of omens; the older association with wisdom also endured. That mixture of darkness and insight gives the owl its enduring fascination. This Lancashire find preserves the bird’s head, body and wings in a small, characterful form, cast in precious metal and fitted with a pendant bail.
