Coins travelled at the waist in purses suspended from belts or girdles. Their metal fittings often survive long after the leather and cloth have disappeared. This Lincolnshire purse fob preserves that practical world in its open loop, narrow stem and flared collar, now cast in precious metal to wear on a chain.
