A medieval posy band reproduced from an Oxfordshire find, with a plain interior and no internal lettering or engraving. Its understated form offers a meaningful choice for a modern historical wedding ring.

Crafted for the Present:

  • Museum-Quality Historical Reproduction: An exact 1:1 historical reproduction cast from the original British find, preserving its surviving form.
  • Individually Hand-Cast in Leeds: Individually hand-cast, sized and finished at our Leeds Corn Exchange workshop.
  • Approved and Hallmarked: Approved and hallmarked by the London Assay Office in the precious metal selected.

The History of the Find:

Period: 14th–15th Century (Late Medieval)

Find Location: Oxfordshire, UK

Style: D-section band with a plain, unengraved interior

Significance of the Design:

The posy-ring tradition, which flourished from the later Middle Ages onward, placed the most personal part of the jewel out of sight. A simple exterior could conceal a short inscription inside the band: a private motto, prayer or message intended primarily for the wearer.

These inscriptions were commonly associated with love, friendship, devotion and betrothal and could appear in Middle English, French or Latin. The hidden wording turned an otherwise understated ring into a private bond between two people. This particular Oxfordshire band has no internal lettering or engraving; the inscription tradition described here provides historical context.

The Find:

Discovered by a metal detectorist in the Oxfordshire countryside, the original artefact is a classic D-section band, rounded outside and flatter within. The interior is plain, with no internal lettering or engraving. The smooth exterior suggests long use and adds to the sense of a personal object carried through everyday life.

Weight by Metal (approximate, varies by ring size):

  • Sterling Silver (925): 3.3g
  • 9ct Gold: 3.5g
  • 18ct Gold: 4.9g
  • Platinum: 6.6g
